From email:

We left the 5th December 1999, arrived in Wuhan the 6th December (our hotel was the Lake View Garden Hotel) and met our girl the 7th December in the morning at the office of civil affairs of the province of Hubei. We were alone to travel to Wuhan. We were there until the 9th December and then we went to Pekin and we rejoined 6 other families who have adopted in the province Hunan (Changsha). We left for home the 14th December.

The day of the adoption, we met the director Ziao or Jiao and the foster mother of Lia. It was very difficult. It happened very quickly; during the adoption ceremony, Lia and the foster mother were crying and we didn't have the possibility to speak with the foster mother. We only received one picture of the orphanage, very few informations about the baby and the same letter, we suppose, that you have received. The director has given to us a little bag with a piece of Tongshan's ground.

The first days with Lia were difficult. She was insecure, didn't sleep, it was almost impossible to change or to wash her. She was troubled by her new mother who was so different of what she knew. She was always with her new father who is from Italy. He had more a Chinese look! Now after two years, Lia loves her parents very strong. She lives a normal life. She is clever, lovely, nice but she knows very well what she wants and sometimes she wants to be the little chief!

The chinese name of Lia is Jiao(Ziao) Gui Yuan. Gui Yuan means "garden of osmanthus". Osmanthus is a typical little tree of the country of Tongshan, said our guide. Have you seen osmanthus in Tongshan ? It smells very good like jasmine, the flowers are white and yellow. The Chinese put osmanthus in tea or pastry or alcohol. Lia is born the 9th December 1998.

We are connected here with several families who have adopted in China but we are alone from Tongshan. Most girls are coming from Changsha.
