This is the obituary as printed in the Norwalk Reflector. They made some minor changes from the wording we submitted through the funeral home, but I can't remember what they were.

JAMES R. BARNES

NORWALK — James R. “Barney” Barnes, 55, of Norwalk, died Saturday at his residence following a two-year illness.

He was born May 10, 1944, in Norwalk, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a 1964 graduate of Norwalk High School.

He had retired in April from General Motors Delphi Chassis in Sandusky after working there for 30 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served four years as a C-130 crew chief in the Tactical Command during the Vietnam War.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Norwalk, where he served as a deacon, on the Board of Trustees, on the Christian Education Board and as Superintendent of Sunday School. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 913, Sandusky. He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dollie (Courtney), whom he married Aug. 26, 1967; daughters, Beth Ann Borth of Norwalk, and Tricia S. Wilson of Valparaiso, Ind.; sons, Courtney P. Barnes, stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton and Christopher J. Barnes at home; a grandson; a sister, Sandra Gibson of Norwalk; a brother, Dale Barnes of Monroeville; and by two nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew, in infancy.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Kubach-Smith Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Paul Lamb, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwalk, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk.
